- Why is there a red X on the internet connection icon that is on the bottom task bar. I am able to access the internet without any problems. I'm using an HP s5310f, Windows 7, IE8 and Norton 2010.
- One of the rarer cases placing a red X (cross) in the bottom left-hand corner of drive, folder, and file icons. Although this is similar to the file compress icon situation where Windows 10 places a blue tick over icons, the process for removing the X is quite different.
Right-click on volume icon in notification area (task tray). Click on Troubleshoot sound problems 3. Red cross icon appears over volume icon ('No Audio Output Device is installed'). Report: Microsoft to bring support for Android apps in Windows 10 next year, x86.

Drivers/Hardware :: Sound Blaster X-Fi Surround 5.1 Pro - Default Win Sound Indicator?
Oct 16, 2015I just bought this sound card and installed drivers for Windows 10. (and a crapton of bloatware with UI of Win XP media player...)
Everything works well except one thing: when I change the sound (or mute) I don't see Windows 10 volume bar. I mean these:
The sound itself changes, but there is no indicator. Is there a way to fix that?

Drivers/Hardware :: Device Manger Shows No Missing Drivers For Sound

Drivers/Hardware :: No Sound Through Headphones
Dec 30, 2015Sound comes through perfectly fine on my laptop's built-in speakers. However, when plugging my headphones into the 3.5mm headset jack, there is no sound whatsoever. The system recognizes that my headset is plugged in. In fact, the microphone on my headset functions perfectly when plugged in, but the headphones themselves are outputting no sound.
I tested the headphones on other computers and devices, and they work. In Device Manager, the device is listed as 'Realtek High Definition Audio'. However, the only sound device listed in Control Panel is 'DTS Audio Control Panel'.
I've tried uninstalling the audio device from Device Manager, and then reinstalling the driver from Realtek's website. However, this is met with the exact same results... no sound through the headphones, and 'DTS Audio Manager' is installed in the Control Panel instead of Realtek HD Audio Manager.
If I navigate to Control Panel -> Sound -> Playback, 'Headphones' is not listed as a device. Instead, Speakers/Headphones is listen as the sole device. Also, I ran DirectX Diagnostic Tool, and it returned absolutely no errors.
Model: HP ZBook 17 G2
OS: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit

Drivers/Hardware :: Sound Not In Taskbar
Jan 19, 2016There used to be a sound option in my taskbar like everyone remembers, but I had recently installed X-Split and that is the last time I remember seeing it there. I have been on the forums and Google looking for answers but everything I find tells me to go to the settings and hit enable all. This was already checked off but even trying to select individual tasks it's not there.
Need to restore the option, volume is stuck at 37% and can't change it so I've had to use my neighbor's DJ equipment just to watch netflix at something I can hear.I went one setting down to Turn system icons on/off and sound is greyed out can't adjust that.

Sep 3, 2015After updating my Windows 10 last night, the sound went out completely. Shortly after changing the speaker properties to 24-bit, 192000, the sound came back. Drivers/Hardware :: Getting Stereo Sound From Headphones
Feb 10, 2016I have an HP laptop, and my sound card is (displayed using PCIutils for Windows):
Code:
Intel Corporation 7 Series / C210 Series
and I am finding difficulties in getting stereo sound from analogical headphones (plugged in with 3.5mm jack). Drivers downloaded from HP or Realtex do not work, drivers supplied by Windows (although they are Realtek drivers as well) sometimes work, I mean: speakers and headphones are shown together at the mixer, and sound from headphones is not stereo. I then go to device manager, audio input and output, and uninstall 'Speakers/ Headphones'. I then reboot with my headphones plugged in, and, after that, the sound is stereo, and (IIRC) the mixer distinguishes between headphones and speakers.
But then things get broken back soon: one time, the windows updated the sound driver, and no stereo sound again. I uninstalled the device, rebooted, and stereo back. Then I unplugged the headphones, and windows said that no speakers were found: I restarted the audio device, speakers were found again, but stereo broken again.

Drivers/Hardware :: Sound Stopped Working
Oct 22, 2015Earlier today I was playing my usual online game when suddenly the sound stopped working. It had been working just fine earlier and I hadn't changed anything except maybe updating Adobe Flash. After a while the sound suddenly came back and then it disappeared and hasn't returned. I've been looking through all the Device Manager and Sound Control, but nothing seems to be working. When I slide the sliders in the volume mixer Speakers/ Headphones and System Sounds lights up green. In the sound panel on the speaker icon there is a green check mark. This is all happening on my pc not my mac. So I'm not sure if I pressed a button during my gaming or if adobe flash might've messed up something. I've posted this thread here because everything I looked up points to Drivers, but to me it seems like they're working???

Drivers/Hardware :: Sound Cuts Out Intermittently
Sep 7, 2015Since installing Windows 10, the sound will cut out every so often, usually while watching a video on YouTube or I've downloaded. If I reboot the sound works. Drivers/Hardware :: New Monitor No Sound From HDMI
Dec 25, 2015Just got a new monitor today, Samsung S24D300HL which I have plugged into my Nvidia Geforce GTX 745 video card via HDMI.
Picture is great no problems there. However I have no sound at all. I've updated my graphics driver via Nvidia Experience program version 361.43 I've right clicked and went to Nvidia control panel audio tab and my monitor was listed there as audio under HDMI still no sound. I've restarted the computer a couple times. Checked Windows update. Switch to a different HDMI cord and still no sound. I've right clicked the speaker in the taskbar and went to playback and what I have is. Nvidia HDMI Output (Port 0) and Nvidia HDMI Output (Port 1) both say not plugged in. I'm confused about the Port 0 and Port 1 because there is only one HDMI spot on the back of the card.

Drivers/Hardware :: Sound Won't Come Back After Muting
Nov 21, 2015Whenever I mute my sound (either using media key on keyboard, or clicking the speaker icon on the system bar and the other one to the left of the slider, or dragging the slider all the way to the left), I'm not able to unmute it (the muted icon goes away, the actual sound doesn't come back).
Tried running the troubleshooter (finds nothing), restarting audio services (didn't change anything), reinstalling audio drivers (using the one from Realtek's site, 6.0.1.7541 x64), not sure what else there is to try.

Drivers/Hardware :: Via HD Audio - Sound And Mic Not Working?
Windows 10 Volume Icon Missing
Aug 9, 2015I just upgraded my ASUS Laptop from Win 8.1 to Win 10 X64. (It has Via HD Audio)
Initially, sound worked but the microphone didn't. I fussed with many settings but nothing seemed to work.
I uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers, then the mic seems to work but sound doesn't.
Some of the events that I have encountered are: One message said 'Windows has detected that Audio enhancements for the following device are causing problems'. I disabled all enhancements but nothing changedBased on other posts, I tried to change the default format to 16 bit and other Hz. Nothing worked.I tried to play a test tone in the speaker setup and got the message 'Failed to play test tone'.I tried to update the drivers but was informed that I had the latest drivers
I went to the VIA web site to look for new drivers but there are none listed for Win 10.
Is there something else that I can do or is it just a matter of waiting for new VIA drivers? (VIA HD Audio is such a common audio chip that I find it hard to imagine that VIA and Microsoft haven't solved the driver problem - particularly given the Insiders Hub process!)
